Transcription Team
Here we have to speak a few words of praise for the amazing dedication shown by our www Transcription Team. In the last couple of months they have produced nearly 250,000 words spread across 4 projects. We feel we have found a winning formula as this valuable work will increase our output of books enormously. Without their help we might never have contemplated tackling the 53 year diary of Rev Cary Borrer. As it is we have already dealt with an estimated 20%.
We still need volunteers. If you are interested please use our contact form to apply. Non-members are welcome.

IGI in Excel form newly available on the website
In 1995 we downloaded a number of specific Sussex names from the IGI database in Excel form. We have, for instance, the whole Marchant family for Sussex over hundreds of years in one document. This has been sorted and enhanced over the years so caution is called for when using it but it is a good tool for establishing whole family relationships as long as you verify the results. Unfortunately we only have a limited number of names but this facility is probably still available at Mormon Temples. See our general reference download section.

Family Database
The database has grown again in the last month but we will not be uploading a new version until the end of March. This month we have done a lot of work on the Borrer and Hodson families in conjunction with our work on the Borrer Diary Project. The current database can be downloaded by associate members at www.hurst-hsg.net . Non-members can get a view of the content by going to Researched Surnames on the left-hand side of our Home Page. We would like to thank Sydney G. Smith of Orpington, Kent for the FH data contributed on his behalf by Joe Marchant of Australia

Ongoing Projects
During the last month our worldwide transcription team has made huge inroads into the Borrer Diary so that we now have 267,000 words “in the can”. When we started this project it looked as though it would take a number of years but we are now confident that we will be able to publish a book and CD Rom next year.
For this project we still need transcribers, proofreaders and genealogists if anybody wants to sign up. If you feel you would like to join our Internetional team please email abbo700@hotmail.com or write to:

New: Transcribers' Corner
We now have a transcribers' corner at the Hurst HSG website. Transcribers can download files to work on here. For the moment this section is devoted to our major project - the diary of Rector Carey Hampton Borrer. This section is separately passworded and is only accessible to our team of Transcribers and Proofreaders.

New Wills and Documents
We have added new wills and documents to the Incidental Documents download section. Please note, that the new documents appear at the end of the list (not in chronological order).

The Diary of Carey Hampton Borrer
As many of you will now we are working on a major project at the moment - the diary of Carey Hampton Borrer.
We still need volunteers to help us transcribe and proofread this massive document which will produce some 650,000 words spread over more than 50 years. So far we have transcribed about 70%. If you have some spare time and enthusiasm please contact us here.

Hurstpierpoint School “To be larned, not washed”
Ian Nelson’s latest book is due to appear within the next few days.
Ian retires as a governor of the school this year and his book has been meticulously researched and written in his usual very readable style.
It will cost £12.50 but we cannot take final orders until we know the final price with p+p.

Frederick Weekes' Diary
Frederick’s diary will be appearing later this year under the joint editorship of Ian Nelson and Anthony Bower.
Along with other valuable material this diary was kindly donated to the new Hurstpierpoint Museum by one of our members Astrid Bucknall. It was written between 1837 and 1852 and describes the life of a Hurstpierpoint gentleman farmer.
